Office pod listings use capacity labels such as 1 person, 2 person and 2 to 4 person, but those labels hide a wide range of real sizes. A pod that holds two people on paper can be 55 inches wide inside or 72 inches long, and the difference decides whether a desk and two chairs actually fit.

This chart gathers the dimensions that real pod listings publish, adds floor areas that we calculated from them, and covers ceiling height, doorway width and delivery planning. There is no industry standard for pod sizes, so treat every number as a typical figure and check the exact listing before you order. Outside and inside measurements are labeled separately because they differ by several inches per side.

Quick answer: A one person pod typically measures about 54 by 45 inches outside and 46 by 43 inches inside. A two person pod is about 79 by 39 to 47 inches outside, with an interior near 72 by 33 to 41 inches. Four person pods run about 91 to 92 inches wide by 70 to 71 inches deep. Almost every pod is 86 to 92 inches tall outside, so an 8 foot (96 inch) ceiling leaves only a few inches of room.

Office pod dimensions by capacity

The table lists sizes printed in current Amazon listings for pods we reviewed. Floor areas are calculated by multiplying length by width and dividing by 144, so they are approximate and describe the footprint, not usable floor.

Two listings give the dimensions in a different order (height first), so double-check which number is width and which is depth before you compare. The sizes above are for pods sold on Amazon, and commercial vendors such as Bureau or Uncaged Ergonomics sell their own size ranges.

Interior space you can actually use

Walls, acoustic panels and frames take up room, so the inside is smaller than the outside. Only a few listings print an interior size, but where they do the gap is clear.

PodOutside (inches)Inside (inches)Calculated interior floor
GEARONIC solo booth54 x 45 x 9246 x 43 x 80about 13.7 sq ft
GEARONIC for 2 people78.74 x 39.37 x 91.772.04 x 33.07 x 79.92about 16.5 sq ft
GEARONIC for 2 to 4 people79 x 47 x 9272 x 41 x 80about 20.5 sq ft

On these three listings the interior is about 2 to 8 inches shorter than the outside in length and width, and about 12 inches shorter in height. That 80 inch interior height is why a tall person can stand, but a standing desk or a tall monitor arm may be limited. Two adults sitting side by side need about 6 feet of interior length, which only the two bigger pods here provide.

Floor area by capacity from one vendor

Sonic Hive publishes approximate footprints in square meters for each size in its range. The table adds a conversion to square feet, which we calculated by multiplying by 10.76.

Sonic Hive sizeCapacityApprox. footprint (published)Approx. footprint (calculated)
S1 person1.2 m2about 12.9 sq ft
M1 to 2 people1.8 m2about 19.4 sq ft
L2 to 4 people3.2 m2about 34.4 sq ft
XL4 to 6 people5.0 m2about 53.8 sq ft
XXL6 to 10 people8.5 m2about 91.5 sq ft

This vendor's M size is labeled 1 to 2 people, similar to the 1 to 2 person Amazon listing above at about 18.5 square feet, which suggests that a 1 to 2 person pod is really a one person pod with room for a guest.

Ceiling height and room clearance

Most pods listed here are 86 to 92 inches tall. On a standard 8 foot (96 inch) ceiling that leaves about 4 to 10 inches above the pod, a figure we calculated from the listed heights. That is enough to tip the pod upright or fit a top vent, but not enough for a dropped ceiling or a sprinkler head without checking.

  • Measure the ceiling at the pod location, not at the door, since beams and lights lower it.
  • Leave a few inches around the sides for casters and fan intake, and check where the door swings.
  • Plan for a power socket within reach of the cable. One listing mentions a 9.84 foot cable.

If you only have a 7.5 foot ceiling (90 inches), a pod that is 92 inches tall will not fit, so pick one of the 86 inch models or a lower build.

Door and delivery clearance

Pods travel as flat panels or crated modules, and the delivery route is often tighter than the room. Uncaged Ergonomics states that its components fit through a standard 36 inch doorway and that two installers need roughly 2 to 6 hours. Other listings describe on-site assembly of about 2 to 3 hours, shipped by freight in a reinforced wooden crate.

  • Measure the narrowest doorway, hallway turn and elevator, and compare them with the crate size the seller gives.
  • Ask whether delivery is to the curb, the dock or the room, since freight usually stops at the curb.
  • Heavy pods, such as one listing at 1058 pounds, also need a floor that carries that weight.

Which size for which use

Match capacity to the work, then check the interior. For solo calls a one person pod is enough, and our one person office pods and small office pods guides compare them. If two people will share it, see two person office pods, and for quiet calls see soundproof office pods. If you want a contemporary look, our modern office pods guide covers glass and steel designs, and best office pods gives the general list.

A pod that is too small gets abandoned, and a pod that is too big wastes floor space. Choose the smallest interior that fits your desk, chair and one visitor stool.

Frequently asked questions

How big is a one person office pod?

Listings show about 54 by 45 inches outside and 46 by 43 inches inside, with a height of about 92 inches. That is a footprint of roughly 17 square feet.

How big is a two person office pod?

About 79 inches long and 39 to 47 inches deep outside, with an interior of roughly 72 by 33 to 41 inches. Some two person listings are shorter, such as 63 by 55 inches.

Will an office pod fit under an 8 foot ceiling?

Most pods in these listings are 86 to 92 inches tall, which fits under a 96 inch ceiling with 4 to 10 inches to spare, a calculated figure. Check for lights, beams or sprinklers.

Can an office pod go through a standard doorway?

Uncaged Ergonomics states its components fit through a standard 36 inch doorway, so it is assembled on site. Other pods arrive in crates, so confirm the crate size.

What is the difference between outside and inside size?

Walls and acoustic panels take up room. On the three listings that give both, the interior is about 2 to 8 inches shorter in length and width and about 12 inches shorter in height.

How much floor space does a pod need?

Allow the pod footprint plus a few inches for casters and vents. A one person pod is about 17 square feet and a 4 person pod about 45 square feet by our calculation.

Sources and scope

Dimensions come from seller listings, not our measurements, and no pod size is standardized. Square-foot and clearance figures marked as calculated are our arithmetic from those listings. Always confirm exact sizes with the seller before ordering.
